Darlington manager Martin Gray says that he is hoping for big crowds for Quakers’ two home games against Salford and Nantwich this week.

Quakers are well in the thick of the promotion action despite unluckily losing at Stourbridge at the weekend, and they can give themselves a huge boost by getting six points from the next six, and maintain their pursuit of leaders Blyth.

“I really hope that we get big crowds for the next two home games,” he said. “The fans really can be our twelfth man as they have proved many times before. Small things can help decide football matches, and the support of the fans is one of them.

“Personally, I can’t wait for the Tuesday game, because I want to get last Saturday out of my system.

“I thought that we should have had a stonewall penalty in the second half. I spoke to their keeper and full back, and they both said that it (the tackle on Liam Hardy) was a penalty. Everyone’s reaction was that the ref was going to give a penalty, but he didn’t.”

Saturday’s defeat was only the sixth of the season for Quakers, and MG said; “I think what makes it feel worse, is that Stourbridge scored from their only shot on target. We didn’t close their lad down, and got punished for it.

“We had plenty of possession in the game, but we didn’t make their keeper work hard enough, we didn’t make him pull off any big saves.

“But the good thing is, that we still created plenty of chances, and that’s something positive that we can take into Tuesday night’s game.”

Tuesday night’s game is being filmed as part of the second BBC TV documentary on Salford.
