The league cup began with a long travel away and Darlo were greeted with a very bobbly pitch against Washington, fourth in the division above Darlo. But from kick off, Darlo pressed and moved the ball very well in difficult conditions and dominated throughout the game. With a couple of controversial offside goals disallowed, it took Darlo around 20 minutes to take the lead with lone striker, Luke Evans having an easy tap in with a run from Tom Gilroy down the left hand side.
Debutant Johnson Ballan got his name on the score sheet with a great turn in the box, and a great finish into the far top corner. The third soon came after with a nice ball in from Johnson for Luke Evans to score his fourth in 2 games. Shortly after the half time break, more goals came in with a easy tap in for Johnson after a blocked shot for his second of the game.
Harry Gill got his fourth goal in the four games he's played with very tidy feet across the byline beating four men and slotting it away. Johnson got his debut hat-trick with a well struck shot from the edge and a deflection off the defender taking it over the keeper. The 7th came from a great delivery from Hugo Elwood for a free header for Shayne Ketley to put home.
The final goal came from striker Jamie O'Brien, who got on the score sheet again with a long clearance from the defence leading to him getting through on goal with a sharp counter attack and slotting it past the keeper. A great result for Darlo putting them through to the next round of the cup! Onwards and upwards for a team getting better each and every match.
