Darlington striker Amar Purewal has set his sights on full fitness again before he starts to dream of a World Championship place.

Amar, who has scored over 50 goals for Quakers, is involved in the Darlo first team squad again after a year out because of a cruciate ligament injury, and in the meantime his top priority is a good level of fitness before he starts to think about playing for Panjab in Georgia in May.

“My first aim is to get back playing again and scoring goals,” he said.

“I’ve got the all clear from the surgeon to start playing, and the club have given me their permission to play for Panjab.

“I might be able to come on as a sub for 30 minutes for the first team, and maybe play at Ossett Town in the Doodson Cup on Tuesday night. I might even be loaned out somewhere to get some full games in.

“The Panjab team management have said that I won’t need to play a full game in the match next Saturday, which is good to know.”

The Panjab have obviously noticed Amar’s goalscoring prowess in the last four seasons, and he said; “The call up hasn’t come completely out of the blue, because I went with my brother Arj to one of the training camps recently.

“The most important thing for me is firstly to get fit before I think about playing for Panjab. But if I am fit enough, then playing for my country will be a great opportunity for me, especially against good players from other countries.

“At last, things seem to be looking up thankfully.”
