Striker Amar Purewal says that he’s raring to go after a successful Conifa World Cup.

Amar was one of the stars of the Panjab FA team that reached the final of the World Cup, and were within three minutes of a famous victory against the host nation Abkhazia.

But the home side equalised, and then won the subsequent penalty shootout by 6-5  to shatter the Panjab’s hopes.

“We were 1-0 up with three minutes left , and then two penalties away from victory. We were 3-1 up in the shootout as well,” said Amar.

“It was a nightmare finish to the game, it’s been hard getting over it.

“But it was still a great experience. When we went over there, we were aiming to get out of the group, so to reach the final was fantastic. We played above ourselves, and the manager set us up well. We were up against full time pros in some matches, some of our opponents in the final play their club football in the Russian League.”

Amar scored two hat tricks in the competition, against Somaliland and Western Armenia in the group, and then his side’s goal in the final – which almost won the cup.

“I really enjoyed the competition, it’s whet my appetite for the next one. It’s been one of my best experiences in football, there was a great atmosphere and team spirit. The crowds were very good – there were 8,000 at the opening ceremony and 10,000 for the final.

“It was a brilliant experience, even though we played five games in eight days. I didn’t have any reaction to my injury in the games, and I virtually went straight back into pre season training, raring to go.”
