Volunteers from the National Citizen Service will be in attendance with buckets and holding a stall to receive donations of everyday necessities.
The NCS is a trust programme operated by the UFA (University of the First Age) which is a government funded trust.
One of the volunteers, Tamara Gale, writes; “Our social action plan includes donations which will be obtained by doing a bucket collection and a stall in which we can receive everyday items that the homeless would not be able to provide themselves. The money donated from the bucket collection will allow us to buy resources for the homeless, which will be stored in boxes and given out to them personally by the charity S.H.A.I.D. (Single Homes Action in Durham)
“The charity S.H.A.I.D, which we are fundraising for, offers different kinds of support towards the homeless by giving them advice for housing, support if they find themselves homeless, help in finding shelter, access to resources and providing counselling. The charity is local and therefore has a better impact into our community. The primary role for S.H.A.I.D is to offer young people age 16-25 support in their own tenancies or in the transitional period towards independent living.”
The NCS would like to thanks Darlington FC and Darlington Rugby Club for allowing them to use Blackwell Meadows’ facilities
