We'd like to congratulate 7 year old Jack Lowis and 16 year old Adam Lynas, who won our 300 word writing competition, organised by Darlo Fans Radio.

Here are their winning entries:

My Darlington day by Adam Lynas

My alarm went off at 7.30 as I woke up for school on the Wednesday morning, it was the day of the play off semi final.

Darlington were playing Spennymoor at home I was so excited that I wasn’t bothered about doing work at school as long as the bell came around sharpish at 3pm.

Then by the time I knew it, the schoolday was over, I walked home with my mates only talking about how good the game was surely going to be.

I met my uncle at my gran and granddads as we had pre match photos all hyped up for the game, we then had tea which was pizza and by 6.30 me, my granddad and uncle set off for the game with my granddad’s mates Paul and Ronnie.

We arrived at the ground at 7pm waiting for kick off which seemed to be edging closer every time I looked at my phone. Then kick off 7.45, the game was edgy and the first half went fast until Armstrong headed us into the lead on 45 minutes. Armstrong is my favourite player. Then the second half we fell 2-1 behind with 14 minutes remaining, me and my uncle were in disbelief as we did when we went to Rochdale when we were beaten in the semi final that day.

Anyway we brought the game to 2-2, and with just two minutes left made it 3-2 through Dowson, my face lit up like the day we won the FA Trophy at Wembley.

We travelled back through to Darlington to my granddads as we got back at 10.30pm I grabbed myself a drink of milk and some biscuits and headed off to bed with a smile on my face.

My Darlington day by Jack Lowis

My favourite Darlington day is when we beat Bamber Bridge 2-0 to win the play-off final last season.

I was mascot for the team that day, and I was so excited to meet the Darlo players. Me and my Daddy met Dave Mills at the ground before the match, then I played football on the pitch with Andrew Alton and I took some photos with a few of the players. There were lots of fans in the ground and everyone was very excited.

Then when it was time for kick-off, I lead the teams out of the tunnel onto the pitch with Gary Brown and shook hands with all of the players before helping to toss the coin with the referee.

After kick-off, we dominated the first half but it was 0-0 at half time. Then in the second half we scored two goals from Nathan Cartman and Graeme Armstrong. I was so excited when we scored the goals, because I knew that we would win promotion. It was sad to see Graeme Armstrong get injured just before the final whistle, especially as he had scored a goal.

When the referee blew the final whistle the fans went wild and we ran onto the pitch to celebrate promotion. We watched as the players got their medals and the trophy, I cheered very loudly as they celebrated in the stand. Everyone was very happy that we had won promotion, and I felt very proud that I had been the mascot that day.

It was the best day of my life as a Darlo supporter – so far.............!!!

Well done lads!

Thanks everyone for entering.
