Darlington 3 AFC Telford United 0

Scorers: Charman (18 mins, 1-0, 63 mins, 2-0) Dos Santos (82 mins 3-0)

Attendance 1201

Luke Charman scored twice to give Quakers their first win of the season -- and a much-deserved victory it was too.

Quakers produced their best home display of the season to dominate nearly all of the game, with Charman scoring twice to give him six for the season, then Kev Dos Santos scored a cracker to round off the scoring.

And it was a perfect tonic for manager Alun Armstrong, who is recovering from an emergency hernia operation. Alun kept in touch with club officials throughout the game.

Quakers won a corner on 2 minutes after George Smith made a good run up the left and his cross was cleared for a corner that was punched away by Griffiths.

Ben Hedley won another corner after his right foot shot was blocked, and again Griffiths punched it clear.

Joe Wheatley had the first attempt on goal on 11 minutes, when he picked up a pass from Hatfield and struck a left foot shot that dipped just over the bar.

Wheatley then popped up on the left and teed up Jake Cassidy, who fired a yard wide from the edge of the box.

Quakers took a deserved lead on 18 minutes. George Smith’s attempted through ball was partly cut out on the edge of the area, and the ball fell for ran for Kevin Dos Santos to hit a shot that the keeper couldn’t gather, and Luke Charman pounced to score his fifth goal of the season.

Quakers had their tails up, and Rivers tried his luck from 30 yards, but his effort went wide, then Charman had a 25 yarder deflected over.

Telford’s Kyle Bennett was booked for a challenge on Darlington keeper Tommy Taylor when he chased a headed back pass by Danny Ellis and collided with the keeper.

Quakers nearly got a second when Hedley flighted a low cross in from the right but Dos Santos couldn’t get to it at the far post with the keeper stuck on his line.

Hatfield then tried his luck from the edge of the box, but Griffiths saved again.

And the keeper saved at the feet of Dos Santos after Cassidy had flicked on a free kick in the penalty area.

Half time: 1-0

Quakers had a penalty shout at the start of the second half when Cassidy chased a short back pass and seemed to be impeded by a defender, but the referee waved his appeals away.

Telford nearly levelled on 52 minutes. A free kick came in from the right for Jason Oswell to put in a diving header that glanced off the top of the bar.

Dos Santos had a penalty appeal turned down when he tried to play the ball into the box from the left and the ball hit a defender, but again the referee waved play on.

Quakers went 2-0 up on 64 minutes. Cassidy flicked on a diagonal ball for Dos Santos, who played the ball back inside for Cassidy to lay off for Charman, 25 yards out, to superbly curl beyond Griffiths into the net for his second of the game.

Quakers stayed in control of the game and went 3-0 up on 82 minutes. The ball was charged down in midfield by Rivers, and the ball ran for Wheatley to find Dos Santos on the right, and he cut into the box and unleashed a right foot shot that flew into the top corner -- his first goal for the club!
