From the League: Monthly awards

Vanarama Manager and Player of the Month
It’s time to introduce you to October’s National League North winners in a month where we
saw the cream start to rise and a serious title race brew!
Josh Gowling was a composed centre-back during his playing days - and as a manager he is
showing he has total control as well.
Hereford had four weeks to remember, winning five of their six matches.
They not only begun their rise in the league, but they stormed through in the FA Cup,
setting up a money-spinning tie against Portsmouth.
Their National League North wins against AFC Fylde, Boston United and Curzon Ashton saw
them really close the gap on the top seven.
Four of their five wins last month came away from Edgar Street as life on the road suited
the Bulls down to the ground.
Some of Gowling’s summer signings come into their own – Tyrone Barnett and Orin Pendley
to name a couple who started to find their feet.
Steve King knows the National League South like the back of his hand.
But it seems he knows how to cope with the National League North as well!
Gloucester City’s new manager made a flying start - and he is already inspiring his new
players.
Kieran Phillips’ form has skyrocketed since King took over.
The attacker may not have featured in the final two games of the month, but the damage
was done before his enforced absence.
He scored six in four, with two against Southport and Alfreton as he also scored against
Farsley and Chester.
Without Phillips’ goals in October, City would be seven points worse off. That would mean
they would have ended the month in 17th - not third.
Well done to our well-deserved winners!
