Geoff Barker

Former centre half passes away

The club is very sad to learn about the passing of our former centre half Geoff Barker.

Geoff, who was 73, signed for us from Hull City at the start of the 1971-72 season, and went on to play 161 games for us in four seasons, scoring six times, before moving to Reading in February 1975. He was part of the Reading squad that won promotion in 1976 after which he moved to Grimsby Town.

Even though we finished in the bottom six in each season that he was with us, it's agreed by many fans of that era that Geoff was probably one of the best players in the team in those four seasons, and why Reading signed him for their promotion campaign.

We would like to send our condolences to his family and friends.
