Darlington Youth Under 15 2 Spennymoor Town 0
Darlington youth u15 sponsored by Baltic training services and Billinghurst George & partners entertained local rivals Spennymoor town in a premier league fixture .
From the onset Darlington dictated play and had the vast percentage of the ball with Harry Hobbs and Matthew Wilson completely dominating the midfield. However time and time again Spennymoor’s game plan of putting all ten men behind the ball frustrated Darlington and no chances of any note happened until a long ball into the box by Mark Ross was fumbled by the Spennymoor keeper and Dan Myers stabbed the ball home to give Darlington a 1-0 lead going into the interval.
The second half started with Spennymoor playing a very physical game to try and stop Darlington’s dominance of the ball and some very heavy challenges on both Jack Baines and Joe Bettridge really dictated the mood of the second half as both teams tried to insert their dominance. However it was Darlington who grabbed the next goal when Harry Noble ran at the Spennymoor defence, beat two defenders and slipped in Adam Bearpark who finished from eight yards out to give Darlington a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The final phase of the game turned into a scrappy physical affair with the Spennymoor players doing their upmost to stop Darlington’s passing game and the referee had to take stern control as tempers boiled over but Darlington’s defence, expertly marshalled by Josh Mellanby, held firm till the final whistle .
Overall a good derby win.
