Darlington manager Martin Gray wants an immediate improvement in his team’s defending for the away game at FC United on Monday.

Quakers were stunned when they lost 4-3 at home to Alfreton on Saturday – only their first defeat in their opening six matches in the Vanarama National League North – to knock them down to fourth in the table.

“Monday’s game can’t come quick enough as far as I’m concerned,” he said.

“We gave Alfreton far too much space and we were caught on the break far too often for my liking.

“I was delighted with our performance when we had the ball, but definitely not with our performance off the ball.

“Even though we conceded four goals, I thought we dominated the game – but you can’t afford to give teams a two goal start and win, certainly not at this level.”

FC United have had an indifferent start to the season, picking up six points from their six games so far. Their only win was at home to local rivals Stockport County and they lost at Brackley on Saturday 1-0.

They were founded in 2005 and won three straight promotions in their first three years. After many near misses FC United were promoted into the National North in the 2014/15 season, in their first season at this level last year they came 13th.

They moved into their new home at Broadhurst Park in 2015, having spent the majority of the last ten years playing at Bury’s Gigg Lane.

Kick off on Monday afternoon is 3:00pm, updates on the game will be made from the club's Facebook, Twitter, Mobile App and Website. Live Commentary will be broadcast from Darlo Fans Radio at 2:50pm
