Super Will scores the winner against his old club

Quakers move into the top six -- but what a performance by Hatfield.

Guiseley 1 Darlington 2

Campbell (5 mins, 0-1) Felix (13 mins, 1-1), Hatfield (30 mins, 1-2)

Attendance 859.

Will Hatfield was the Darlington hero against his old club with an inspiring performance at Nethermoor.

Hatfield, the skipper for the night, scored the winner, but was all over the field, pushing the team forward and making timely clearances when his defence was under pressure -- and he thoroughly deserved the ovation he got from the travelling fans when he went off injured near the end. He's hoping to be fit for Saturday at Chester. (an interview with him will be on the website Wednesday) It was his first league goal for Quakers, his previous goal coming in the Trophy against Solihull.

Quakers are now sixth, having won seven out of their last eight matches. No wonder the fans were celebrating loudly at the end.

Here's what manager Alun Armstrong had to say about the game:

Guiseley were at Quakers straight away. There was an early scare for Quakers when Reiss McNally crossed from the left for Aaron Martin to bundle towards goal, but Chris Elliott just managed to turn the ball around the post.

Quakers took the lead on 5 minutes from their first real attack. Justin Donawa chested down a Ben Hedley through ball for Campbell to return to him in the box, and he was brought down by the advancing keeper Dewhurst. Campbell sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot for his 13th goal of the season.

Guiseley caused some concern with a long throw from the left that dropped for Bencherif to turn weakly towards goal and Elliott saved .

But Guiseley levelled on 13 minutes when Felix controlled a long ball into the Darlington box on the right, and squeezed the ball past Elliott from an acute angle.

Quakers broke away on 18 minutes down the left when Rivers won possession, raced forward and set up Campbell, whose shot was blocked for a corner.

Quakers were forced into a sub on 21 minutes when Louis Laing went off with an ankle injury and was replaced by Gary Martin, with Sean Reid dropping into the back four.

Quakers had the next chance though, a right foot shot by Campbell from 20 yards that was blocked by a defender.

Quakers went back into the lead on 30 minutes. There was a patient build up from left to right involving several players, until Hatfield picked the ball up 30 yards out, ran forward to the edge of the box, and struck a well hit low right foot shot into the bottom left hand corner.

Half time:

In the second half, Hatfield had another shot blocked after a good cross by Rivers was cleared out to him on the edge of the box.

Then a neat flick by Campbell set up Wheatley, who hit a right foot shot from 25 yards that went just over the top.

Hatfield popped up at the other end, putting in a slide tackle inside his own box to concede a corner that came to nothing.

Quakers had Elliott to thank for a good save on 66 minutes, when Hamza Bencherif put a free header towards the top angle from an inswinging corner, but Elliott just managed to palm the ball away.

Guiseley had a good spell of pressure with their pace, and forced several more corners, but only Aaron Martin got a clear header that he put well over the top.

AA then took off Campbell, replacing him with Atkinson to shore up the defence, but then had to make another sub, with Hatfield limping off after 83 minutes and being replaced by Holness.

Quakers battled hard to stay in front, and there was some terrific defending as Guiseley hoisted high balls into their box.
