Quakers beaten by late goal

Missed some good chances

Guiseley 1 Darlington 0

Hollins 85 mins

Attendance 829 (310 from Darlo)

Quakers were left to regret some good missed chances when they went down at Nethermoor.

Despite playing against the elements in the first half, Quakers created but then spurned some great chances, and they paid the penalty five minutes from the end.

Here are manager Alun Armstrong's thoughts on the game:

The conditions are quite windy at Nethermoor, with the wind blowing down the pitch, with some rain mixed in it. Guiseley kick with the wind in the first half.

The Guiseley keeper, Owen Mason, was the first in action when he held on to a deep left wing cross by George Smith.

Quakers’ Jake Lawlor then headed away a long throw by Mbeka from the right, and a right wing cross by Bremang.

Quakers almost took the lead on 8 minutes. Jack Lambert took a quick corner to Danny Rose, who whipped the ball in for Danny Ellis to volley just wide from 12 yards.

Bremang replied with an effort that went over the top of Taylor’s crossbar.

Guiseley had a chance on 12 minutes when a long throw was flicked on for Latty-Fairweather, who miskicked six yards out.

Quakers replied with a good run by Smith down the left, and he set up Lambert whose shot was blocked. Lambert picked up another pass from Smith and turned quickly in the box, but again he was blocked.

Quakers nearly scored on 20 minutes, when Hedley crossed well from the right into the six yard box where Cassidy turned the ball towards goal, and Mason pulled off a good reflex save.

Quakers had another chance on 25 minutes, Hedley’s cross went to the far side of the box, where Smith controlled the ball and fired just over.

Hedley then did well to concede a corner as Guiseley broke up the left.

Quakers nearly scored from a free kick on 33 minutes. Lambert was pushed 25 yards out, and his low free kick was finger tipped around the post by Mason.

From the corner that followed, Hatfield hit a first time shot from 25 yards that Mason fumbled but nobody was following up to take advantage.

In Quakers next attack, Smith crossed low from the left and Rivers, coming in, sidefooted over the top.

Quakers had coped well playing against the wind in the first half.

Guiseley 0 Darlington 0

Quakers had the wind at their backs in the second half, and an early free kick by Hedley was blown out of play for a goal kick.

Bremang broke on the left for Guiseley, but was crowded out in the box.

Lambert and Smith then combined well down the left for Quakers, and Smith's cross was put out for a corner. When the ball came in from Lambert, Cassidy’s header was cleared off the line.

Quakers missed a great chance on the hour. Hedley put another free kick from the right into the box, and Cassidy headed wide.

Guiseley responded with a cross by Mbaka to the far post but Latty-Fairweather couldn’t get his head on the ball.

Another chance came on 65 minutes when Smith intercepted a poor clearance and set up Cassidy, who got to the edge of the box and fired wide.

Lambert curled a corner over from the left that went straight across the six yard box without anyone getting a touch.

Guiseley had a chance on 78 minutes when across came in from the left, and Tear headed into Taylor’s hands.

Lawlor made a good interception when Cantrill burst through two tackles into the box.

With five minutes left, Taylor made a great low save from Hutchinson down to his left.

But Guiseley scored from the corner with a header by Hollins at the near post.

O’Neill had the ball in the net in the last minute, but was flagged offside, and in stoppage time, Hedley had a shot deflected over.
