Jonny was delighted with clean sheet

First shutout of the season for the keeper

Darlington keeper Jonny Maddison was delighted with his first clean sheet of the season against Telford on Saturday.

Jonny didn’t have much to do because of an excellent performance in front of him, and he said; “A 3-0 win, our first home league win and our first clean sheet – I’ll take that, and move on now.

“It was a great defensive display, considering it wasn’t our regular back four. Liam Hughes stepped in, and he was absolutely brilliant from the first to the last minute. He won the aerial battles.

“Once we got the first goal, I think it rocked them, and we didn’t allow them any real opportunities to get at us, so credit to the lads for doing that.

“I thought Joe Wheatley and Tom Elliott worked really well with each other, and they picked up a lot of first and second balls. They broke up Telford’s play a lot, and in turn that nullified their chances.

“When Harvey’s goal went in, it was such a relief, you could feel it around the ground – not that we didn’t deserve the goal because we played some very good football.

“It was nice to get the monkey off our backs – we’ve got licence now to go out and express ourselves and build on this momentum.”
