Local leaders support Rainbow Laces day

Plenty of support for the campaign

We've been given plenty of support from local leaders and politicians for our Rainbow Laces day against AFC Fylde this weekend:

Darlington MP Peter Gibson; “I’m delighted to see Darlington FC celebrate our LGBTQ+ community by taking part in Rainbow Laces for the first time this Saturday. This day isn’t just about inclusion but shows the clubs commitment to our diverse community.”

Darlington Mayor, Cyndi Hughes: “Rainbow Laces Day is the perfect opportunity to reflect upon and celebrate the effect sport and particularly football here in Darlington has on the LGBT+ community and the positive influence the LGBT+ community has on football and sport within our Borough. So,  let’s make everyone welcome and respect the contribution of all toward making Darlington the very best it can be.🌈”

Councillor Steven Tait said; “LGBTQ+ representation and support through sport is an opportunity for clubs to show young people that equality, diversity and inclusion is something that they are committed to. I am really looking forward to attending the Rainbow Laces match on the 11th with friends and representatives of Darlington Borough Council.”

Councillor Darrien Wright, LGBTQ+ Ambassador said; “As a town, we pride ourselves on being open and inclusive to all age, race, background and sexuality. This was sown in the hugely successful Pride Weekender we held this summer in Darlington Town Centre.

“I am proud that we’re showing generations to come that our town is a place you can be yourself and safe. I commend Darlington Fc for making a statement and joining the fight against discrimination and standing up in respect for the LGBTQ+ community."
