Darlington manager Martin Gray is looking for another repeat performance when Quakers go to Gateshead tonight for their final public friendly.

Quakers have won four of their pre season friendlies so far – against Buxton, Harrogate RA, Billingham Synthonia and Sunderland – while they’ve lost only one, against Newcastle United.

Quakers lost badly at home to Newcastle at the Arena last Saturday by 5-1, but bounced back in style by beating a second string Sunderland, who were all pros, by 2-0.

MG said: “It was a much improved performance on Tuesday. I demanded a big improvement from the players after their poor game on Saturday against Newcastle, and they responded perfectly.

“Losing to Newcastle hurt me. I don’t like losing games, even a pre season friendly. I want the players to gain the winning habit, especially as we’re heading for a tough season in the league.

“I’m looking forward to the game against Gateshead. They’re a division above us, and they’re managed by two old friends of mine, Neil Aspin and Lee Nogan. They will give us a good test, and in turn, my players know what I expect from them.”

Defender Terry Galbraith has a 50-50 chance of playing tonight as he recovers from a slight hamstring injury, while midfielder Leon Scott is unavailable. Winger Arran Wearmouth is definitely out because of a cruciate injury.

Tonight’s game at the International Stadium kicks off at 7.45pm.

Quakers have one more friendly match to play, against a Football League club, on Saturday 29th July. That game will be played behind closed doors.

Quakers’ first game in the Vanarama National League North is at Altrincham on Saturday 6th August, with the first home game against Boston United at Heritage Park on Saturday 13th August.
