Darlington manager Martin Gray says that there is still plenty to be done despite a terrific start to the season.

Quakers won their first away league game of the season on Monday night by 2-1 at Curzon Ashton to put them on top of the table at that point.

“Let’s not get carried away, we must remain focussed and there’s stuff to improve on still,” he said.

“We need to go and look at what we can be better at. For example, we need to manage the game better and be more disciplined after conceding goals. We let Curzon back into the game and they had a very good last 25 minutes.

“There are lots of things that we want the players to learn, and we’ll keep demanding more and more from them.”

MG was delighted with the three points considering it was Quakers second game inside three calendar days.

“We’ve won two games over the weekend, and picked up seven points out of nine, so I’m delighted.

“I thought we were strong and dominant in the first half. We put a lot of good balls into their box, and if we had taken our chances, then we could have been three or four up by half time.

“Like all games, if you don’t score enough goals, you risk the chance of leaving the door open for the opposition to have a go at you.

“If we’d stayed 2-0 for another ten minutes, it was game over. But they scored, and we had to show great character and rode our luck to win the game.

“Before the start of the season, I would have been pleased with seven points out of nine, and six points from the weekend.”
