New signing Mitchell Glover was on target as the reserves cruised to a 7-3 away win at Coxhoe Athletic on Saturday.
Mitchell, 16, signed for Quakers just before Christmas, and he showed his quality – as well as several other lads -- in a good Wearside League win.
Darlo went a goal down in just the second minute, but Joey Smith and Derrick Wade hit back for Quakers before half time.
Vinny Steel scored a good goal for 3-1, and after Coxhoe pulled a goal back, Joey made it 4-2. After the hosts made it 4-3, Darlo moved up a gear, and Miles Swift, Jonny Hope and Mitchell put them well in control.
Joint manager Mark Fanning said; “It was nice to get back to winning ways after the Christmas break. We played well in attack, and we could have scored a few more goals, but we gifted them a couple at the other end. It was a good performance, especially as we didn’t have a recognised striker on the field!
“Mitchell did well in midfield, and adapted well to the game as it went on.”
The reserves climbed above Wolviston to sixth in the table thanks to this victory. Their next game is at home to Prudhoe on Saturday, kick off 2pm
