After the first week of the new season five sides remain on maximum points in the National North.

We won our first home game of the season on Wednesday night against Gainsborough Trinity. Goals from Mark Beck, David Syers, Terry Galbraith and Josh Gillies earned us an entertaining 4-3 victory.

Harrogate Town head the table after two impressive wins and are yet to concede. On Tuesday they won 2-0 at relegated North Ferriby United who are yet to get off the mark. Last season’s top scorer Simon Ainge opened the scoring from the penalty spot after an hour and less than five minutes later Joe Presley doubled the lead.

Relegated Southport are on maximum points after winning 2-1 at Braford Park Avenue on Monday. Adam Boyes gave the hosts an early lead, but Andy White levelled just a minute later. The game looked to be heading for a draw before Gary Roberts scored in the final minute for Southport to maintain their perfect start.

Neighbours Spennymoor Town could not have wished for a better start following promotion with a 3-2 win at FC United of Manchester to keep their 100 percent record. They raced into a 2-0 lead inside 30 minutes through Kallum Griffiths and Andrew Johnson . However, goals either side of half time from Jason Gilchrist and Daniel Wisdom brought FC United level. Thankfully for the Brewers though they would bring all the points back to the North East thanks to Glen Taylor's winner on 62 minutes.

The final side on maximum points is Brackley Town who nearly made the playoffs last season. They were comfortable winners at Telford United 3-1 in midweek. Inside 50 minutes they were three up and the game was won, Andy Brown, Lee Ndlovu and an own goal doing the damage. The hosts pulled a goal back through an own goal but it would prove only a consolation.

Salford City picked up their first points of the season with an impressive win at Chorley.  They won 1-0 thanks to a Michael Nottingham goal but had to hold on for the last 15 minutes with ten men following a sending off.

New boys to the league Blyth Spartans are yet to get off the mark after they fell to a 2-0 home defeat to York City. Jon Larkin and Sean Newton scored the goals inside the first 25 minutes for the Minstermen.

Kidderminster Harriers have lost both their opening games after late drama at Nuneaton Town on Tuesday. The game appeared to be heading for a 0-0 draw, but Ashley Chambers stepped up in the 92nd minute to score the winner for Nuneaton.

Stockport County picked up their first win of the campaign with a 3-0 success at home to Curzon Ashton who were brought back down to earth after their 4-0 win on Saturday. Harry Winter opened the scoring in the first half, with goals after the break from Matthew Warburton and Jason Oswell sealing the victory.

Newly promoted Leamington suffered their first defeat on Tuesday at home to Tamworth. Andrew Burns gave the visitors an early lead, before Junior English levelled for Leamington.  However, former Quaker Aman Verma scored 17 minutes from time to earn Tamworth a 2-1 win.

Boston United picked up their first points of the seasons with a 3-1 win over our next opponents Alfreton Town. Mason Warren opened the scoring for the Pilgrims after 16 minutes with Craig Westcarr levelling for the visitors just five minutes later. Jordan Keane regained the lead for Boston before half time with Gregory Smith sealing the win in the second half.
