National North Round-Up 14/08/2017
Three teams including ourselves have won three from three after the latest set of matches in the Nat...
On Saturday, we recovered from a first minute goal at home to Alfreton to win 4-1. A first goal for the club from James Caton brought us level, before a double from Josh Gilles and a David Ferguson strike gave us the victory.
We are second on goal difference behind Brackley Town who won 5-0 at pointless North Ferriby United. Luke Graham opened the scoring in the 35th minute for Brackley, before the floodgates opened in the last 20 minutes. James Armson scored four times in a fourteen minute spell to condemn North Ferriby to their third straight defeat without scoring.
Southport are the third side on nine points after a 1-0 victory at Leamington. Ethan Jones scored the only goal of the game 15 minutes from time.
Spennymoor Town also have 100% record still, but their match at Boston United on Saturday was postponed.
Harrogate Town looked to be heading towards another win, but were pegged back at Stockport County. Two first half goals from Simon Ainge put Harrogate in control, but two second half goals from Jason Oswell earned Stockport a 2-2 draw.
York City won 5-0 at Bradford Park Avenue to move into the playoff places. Daniel Parslow opened the scoring after five minutes, with a double from Amari Morgan-Smith and another from Sean Newton all but putting the game to bed before half-time. A fifth was added in the second half through an own goal, which will give them confidence before our meeting on Tuesday night.
Salford City picked up a 2-0 win at AFC Telford United to move onto six points. Jake Beesley scored after ten minutes, with Michael Phenix sealing the win in the final quarter of an hour.
Chorley and Curzon Ashton are both on four points after a 1-1 draw. Joe Guest gave Curzon an early lead, with Scott Leather earning a point for Chorley before the break.
Blyth Spartans got off the mark with their first win of the season at home to Tamworth. Reece Styche gave the visitors the lead, but goals from Ryan Hutchinson, Daniel Maguire and Jarratt Rivers put Blyth in control. Styche scored his second from the penalty spot to keep Tamworth in the game, with former Quaker Dale Hopson sealing a 4-2 win for Blyth after 66 minutes.
Gainsborough Trinity also picked up their first points of the season with a 1-0 win at Nuneaton Town. Michael Jacklin scored the only goal of the game in the first quarter of an hour.
