Newcastle United have confirmed that St James Park legend Peter Beardsley will be in charge of their squad for the friendly at the Northern Echo Arena on Saturday.
Beardsley is the Magpies’ Under 21 coach, and he will have responsibility for the squad, which is expected to include the club’s best young players and also some fringe first team players.
The 55 year old is a Newcastle legend, playing nearly 300 games for them in two spells, and being a part of Kevin Keegan’s team that went within a whisker of winning the league title in 1996. He also gained 59 England caps, and played in the 1986 and 1990 World Cup, as well as Euro 88.
In his long career, he was also a crowd favourite at Liverpool, where he won the league twice and the FA cup once, as well as at Everton .
He has played against Quakers in the past, he was in the Hartlepool team that lost 3-2 to Quakers in the 1998-99 season.
The match against Newcastle kicks off at 3pm at the Arena, tickets are available from Quaker Retail in the Dolphin Centre on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 1pm, price £10, or if you want to see both the Newcastle game and the Sunderland game on Tuesday 19th July, then the tickets are £15 adults.
