Quaker Women draw at Leam Lane

Quaker Women draw at Leam Lane

3-1 up at one stage though

Gateshead Leam Lane 3 Darlington FC Women 3

Our women’s team is still unbeaten after three league and FA cup matches following a 3-3 draw on Tyneside.

However, they could so easily have won three on the trot, if they hadn’t allowed a 3-1 lead to slip away in the second half.

Nevertheless, it’s still an encouraging start to the season for a team that was only put together during the summer.

Manager Shaun MacKenzie said; “It was a great first half performance and we should have been more than 2-1 up at half time.

“We scored a good early goal in the second half, but then we gave a penalty away and Leam scored an equaliser.

“The draw felt like a loss on the final whistle, but there were still some encouraging performances.”

Chloe Bright put Quakers ahead after 14 minutes, with Sophie Curle quickly adding the second a few minutes later.

Leam pulled a goal back on 26 minutes, but we looked good for a win when Hattie Raine scored to make it 3-1 on 50 minutes.

But Leam pulled one back from the spot on 58 minutes, and then levelled on 65 minutes.

Nevertheless, the Women are unbeaten in three going into their next game, at home to Gateshead Rutherford on Sunday at Eastbourne, kick off 2pm.
