Quaker Women hit double figures!
By Ray Simpson
Sophie scores in five in 10-0 win over Hebburn
Our women’s team hit a season’s best when they beat Hebburn Involve 10-0 at Eastbourne on Sunday!
They beat their previous best of 9-0 as they brushed Hebburn aside, with Sophie Curle in amongst the goals again with five, to give her 20 in eight games for the season.
And they’ve also stretched their unbeaten start in the Durham County FA Women’s League to eight games with this victory, their fifth of the season.
Manager Shaun MacKenzie said; “I was really pleased with a very good, all round performance.
“We scored some really good team goals with some good passing football, but most important of all was that we kept a clean sheet – credit to our keeper, Martina, for that, especially with a great save near the end.
“It’s great that we’re unbeaten in eight, but we have a tough game coming up next week.”
Here’s the match report from Chris Barrett
Darlington again came flying out of the blocks and were ahead after 5 minutes when Toni Upton put a ball through the middle to Emma Doudican who fired into the top left corner to start the scoring.
The second came after 12 minutes when Hattie Raine was the provider for Sophie Curle who was again put through the middle and this time the ball was placed low into the bottom left corner. It was only a minute later when from the left hand side a speculative shot from Doudican managed to evade the grasp of the Hebburn goalkeeper to give Darlington a 3-0 lead.
Darlington’s next goal came from a corner when a short ball from Raine was played to Caisey Lee who struck from wide on the right firing a beauty high over the keeper to make it four. The fifth goal came after 38 minutes when the ball came to Raine who thundered a strike from the right hand side past the keeper who could do nothing about it, a fantastic finish give Darlington a 5-0 lead going into half time.
Darlington started the second half in a similar fashion as they did to the first, getting a goal early on, just two minutes in on the 47th minute mark, with another assist for Raine who slotted Curle in, she received the ball on the right hand side and struck towards the middle of the goal over the keeper for the sixth.
After 52 minutes, Darlington scored again mirroring the sixth as the ball was played, this time from Doudican to Upton who again shot high to the middle of the goal over the keeper for the seventh. The eighth came when a weaving run from Olivia Whitworth down the right finished with a pass to Aimee Dagnall who found Curle and the ball was struck top left with a brilliant left foot finish, again giving the keeper no chance.
It was nine when there was some more slick play from Darlington with the assist this time coming from Upton for another Curle goal. The final goal and one of the best of the day came with some fast passing and a one touch pass from Chloe Bright into Curle to end a dominating performance.
Another win for Darlington and another 3 points as they carry on their charge up the table.
