Darlington skipper Reece Styche says that there is still plenty of hard work to be done to make sure that Quakers continue to climb the table.

Quakers’ 3-0 victory against Blyth last Saturday put then 15th in the table, three points above the relegation zone. And that position didn’t change on Monday when Gainsborough and Curzon Ashton, two teams below Quakers, both lost.

“We’ve said that ever since I’ve come to the club that the performances have been there, but not always the results, and we’ve been unfortunate not to win more matches,” he said. “Defensively we haven’t done well sometimes and we’ve been punished for making mistakes.

“We’ve matched every team we’ve played, and over the last two matches against Leamington and Blyth, we’ve had both the performance and the result. We’ve taken our chances and defensively we’ve looked solid.

“On Saturday, we started the game on the front foot and forced an early corner that set out our intentions. Twinny (Phil Turnbull) controlled the midfield, everyone played well and we were really comfortable.

“We got the penalty at just the right time, and then scored two great goals in the second half to put us well in control. I don’t think Blyth really troubled us in the second half, and we were worthy winners.

“Every player gave at least a 7 out of 10 performance, and when everybody is like that, then results come along and we’re heading in the right direction.

“Everyone was happy after the game in the dressing room, but we know that there is still plenty of hard work to be done.”

Reece’s second half goal was his seventh in the league for Quakers and ninth in total, while Stephen Thompson’s first half penalty was also his seventh in the league.

Quakers are at Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday as they bid to extend their unbeaten run to five matches.
