The reserves missed a chance to go top of the Wearside League when they were beaten 4-2 at Hebburn Town Reserves tonight.

They had an opportunity to push on and get the points when Niall Smith headed in a corner to make it 1-1 five minutes into the second half

but Hebburn hit back with three quick goals to lead 4-1.

Joey Smith pulled a goal back from long range, but it was too late.

Joint manager Paul Aldsworth said; “It wasn’t a very good performance, because individual mistakes cost us the game.

“We went a goal down and clawed our way back into the game at 1-1. We looked good at that point and were looking as if we would score next.

“But then a misunderstanding in our defence let them score their second. Their third goal was very good – their lad fired into the top corner – but we were caught by a quick break for their fourth and didn’t mark the runners. “
