Reserves go out of Monkwearmouth Charity Cup
Gateshead Leam Lane 3 Darlington Reserves 1
The reserves were knocked out of the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup at the weekend in a physical game on Tyneside.
Even though they took an early lead through Dale Milburn, the home side fought back to go through to the next round.
“Defensive mistakes cost us,” said joint manager Paul Aldsworth, “but at times it was boys against men, because they were more physical than us. Some of our lads were petrified, so it’s something that they’ll have to get used to.
“We were poor in the first half, but we played better in the second half. Their keeper pulled off some good saves from Dale Milburn and Joey Smith and we just couldn’t score.”
The reserves have lost two players. Ethan Arthur has gone to Crook Town, and Nathan Stephenson has gone to Newton Aycliffe.
Their next game is at home to Windscale in the league this Saturday, kick off 2pm
