Darlington Reserves 4 Harton and Westoe 1
Great news! Darlington Reserves won their first game under the DFC umbrella when they beat Harton and Westoe 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Eastbourne.
Joint manager Mark Fanning sends us this report.
We were on top from the first creating chance after chance, but a combination of poor finishing, good goalkeeping and desperate defending meant we had to wait until the 22nd minute to take the lead from a Rob Moncur header.
Moncur got his second from close range ten minutes into the second half and yet again we failed to take numerous other chances. With half an hour to go we made a couple of changes, and one of those, Lewis Reece on his debut, hit a low shot from the edge of the box which with a slight deflection nestled in the corner for 3-0.
We then started to get over confident and sloppy, allowing Harton to get back into the game. Reece scored his second and our fourth 7 minutes from time, finishing calmly when one on one with the keeper.
Overall we played some really good football but we need to be more clinical in front of goal. We had a daft 15 minutes when the lads decided to do what they wanted instead of what we asked them and that cost us the goal. But we must be happy with another step forward and three valuable points.
The reserves next game is at home to Richmond Town on Saturday, kick off 2.30. If you're not going to Tamworth for the first team game, why not pop along to Eastbourne? You can still listen to the first team on Darlo Fans Radio.
