Sophie Curle joins Middlesbrough

Leading scorer leaves Darlington Women

Darlington Women's Sophie Curle has today joined Middlesbrough Women FC on a dual registration basis.

Sophie has scored a phenomenal 35 times in 14 league games this season and provided 13 assists since joining the club in 2021.

Sophie also played in three FA Cup games and one County Cup game scoring another goal. She departs the club as Darlington FC Women’s overall top club goalscorer on 36 goals.

Middlesbrough are members of the Women's National League North, four divisions higher, and now have first call on her services.

Darlington Women's manager Shaun Mackenzie said; "Sophie has been magnificent for the club since the day she signed. She has been a massive part of our team and played a big role in the successful season we have had so far.

"We knew when we brought Sophie in that it was only a matter of time before she was picked up in the higher leagues. Unfortunately for us, it’s happened mid season and we couldn’t keep hold of her till May.

"At the level we are currently playing, with players who can’t be on a contract, it is difficult to keep hold of exceptional talent and we cannot stand in her way.

"I would like to personally thank Sophie for all her hard work and commitment to the club and wish her the best of luck with Middlesbrough Women. The door will always be open for a return."

Everyone at Darlington FC wishes Sophie all the best for the future.
