Quakers were beaten by a second half goal at the War Memorial ground, ending their ten match unbeaten run in the league.

Leon Broadhurst scored the winner after 61 minutes, just two minutes after Quakers had strong penalty claims turned down at the other end.

It was a scrappy first half at the War Memorial ground, with hardly any clear cut chances created.

Stephen Thompson was in action early on, he controlled a Terry Galbraith throw in on the Darlington left, whipped it right footed into the box, where Graeme Armstrong was just beaten to it by keeper Matthew Gould.

On 2 minutes a throw in by Gary Brown into the Stourbridge box was cleared as far as Phil Turnbull, who fired over the top.

Then Gary Brown nodded down a Phil Turnbull free kick, but Armstrong could only fire straight at Gould.

The home side posed danger for the first time on 9 minutes when Matt Dodd got past Terry Galbraith down the right, but he ran the ball when challenged by Gary Brown for a goal kick.

Thompson had a half chance on 16 minutes when a headed clearance dropped for him 25 yards out, but he fired high and wide.

Quakers had a penalty appeal turned down on 23 minutes when Armstrong seemed to go down under a challenge from Pierpoint, but the ref gave a free kick to Stour instead, which didn’t go down too well with the Darlo players.

After Leon Scott needed treatment and later went off injured to be replaced by Adam Mitchell, Stourbridge had a chat when Hawley sent Dodd running down the right, but he fired high over the bar.

Play was pretty scrappy after that, with neither team creating any clear cut chances and lots of stoppages.

Liam Hardy had the first chance of the second half when Pierpoint failed to cut out a through ball, he sidestepped one defender, but another blocked his shot, then sub Mitchell saw a right foot shot hit a defender, and the ball looped just over the bar.

Another chance dropped to Tom Portas on 53 minutes when Thompson’s cross was cleared to him on the edge of the area, but his shot on the turn went over.

There was a strong penalty appeal for Quakers on 59 minutes when Hardy went for a Portas cross and appeared to be caught by Lait, but for the second time in the game, the ref said no.

Stourbridge took the lead on 61 minutes. Hawley held the ball up well on the edge of the Darlington box, and laid it off for Leon Broadhurst to hit a left foot shot that flew into the bottom left hand corner.

MG's response was to send on Nathan Cartman and Lee Gaskell for Thompson and Hardy and play three up front.

Quakers had a chance to level when Galbraith whipped in a corner from the right, but Lee Gaskell headed over from six yards, and in stoppage time Mitchell had a shot charged down.

And in a last minute scramble, Kevin Burgess had a shot cleared off the line.
