This week in the Evo-Stik League Division 1 North

Simon Hahn brings us his week 8 Evo-Stik round up Darlington won both their games this week to make it four wins in a row. A 1-0 victory at home to bottom club Padiham, was followed by victory at Brighouse Town, 3-1, with Amar Purewal scoring another three goals this week. We are now second in the table, a point behind leaders Salford, however we have played more games than those around us.

Salford City remain top of the table after a comfortable home victory over fellow promotion chasers Bamber Bridge. Gareth Seddon gave the home side the lead inside the first ten minutes, with Danny Webber and Sam Madeley adding further goals in the second half as the game finished 3-0.

Bamber faced another tough game on Tuesday night, as they hosted Lancaster City. Bamber took the lead on three occasions, but were pegged back each time by Lancaster, with Ryan Winder scoring the final goal in stoppage time to earn a 3-3 draw for the visitors. Despite the results Bamber Bridge are only two points off the playoff places.

Lancaster City’s other game this week saw them pick up a victory at home to Brighouse Town, 2-0 Neil Marshall and Aaron Taylor the goal scorers.

Farsley have moved into third place after back to back victories this week. They comfortably won away to Radcliffe Borough 4-1 at the weekend, Harris, Priestley, O’Brien and Savory the scorers. They then went on to secure another victory on Tuesday at home to New Mills. Lewis Nightingale scored a penalty early on, before O’Brien sealed the victory. Farsley are now only three points behind league leaders Salford City.

Droylsden dropped below Farsley despite winning their only league game this week. Sean Myler and Stephen Hall scored the goals in Droylsden’s 2-0 victory over Clitheroe.

Spennymoor Town had a great week, as they convincingly beat two promotion rivals. On Saturday they travelled to Northwich Victoria and came away with a 4-1 victory. Michael Roberts scored twice before half time, with ex Quaker Joe Tait adding a third before an own goal gave Spenny a four goal lead. Gary Burnett scored in stoppage time for Northwich, however it was nothing more than a consolation.

Spennymoor were again victorious on Tuesday night by the same 4-1 score line, this time at The Brewery Field against Scarborough Athletic. Liam Henderson gave Spenny the lead, but Gary Bradshaw levelled for the Seagulls just before half time. Michael Roberts regained the lead for the Northern League champions, before further goals from Henderson and Andrew Stephenson ensured Spennymoor picked up the points in front of over 500 spectators.

Despite the loss, Scarborough Athletic were able to pick up one win this week, as they overcame struggling Ossett Albion. A penalty in first half stoppage time by James Beadle gave them the lead, before Ryan Blott sealed the win for Scarborough 2-0.

Mossley are the surprise team in the top ten of the league, however they lost at the weekend, 2-0 away to Burscough. William Jones and Edward Toner scored the goals for Burscough either side of half time.

Warrington Town picked up four points this week, as they continue to recover from their poor start to the season. At the weekend they came away from Harrogate RA with all three points. Scott Metcalfe gave The Wire the lead inside the first quarter of an hour, before Steve Foster doubled their lead. Mal Farquharson pulled one back for Harrogate, however Warrington held on for the victory 2-1.

Warrington then hosted Burscough with the sides sharing the points. Metcalfe gave Warrington the lead before Mark Beesley levelled for Burscough with just three minutes left. Warrington are now in 11th place with Burscough 13th.

Kendal Town came from two goals down to pick up a valuable point away to Ossett Town at the weekend. Daniel Chambers and Calum Hepworth gave Ossett the lead, before an own goal and a strike from Isaac Kusaloka helped Kendal gain a 2-2 draw.

At the foot of the table Prescot Cables won at New Mills to leap above their opponents in the league table. Two goals in the final twelve minutes were enough for Prescot to win the game 2-0, Neil Prince and Callam Gardener the scorers. New Mills have dropped to second bottom with Prescot moving up to 19th.

Harrogate RA produced a fantastic comeback on Tuesday to earn a crucial victory away to Ossett Albion. The home side were 2-0 up inside the first 25 minutes after Adam Muller and Conor McDonagh both got on the score sheet. Nathan Cartman however completed the turn around all on his own for Harrogate, as he scored three times in the second half to earn them the victory 3-2, Cartman is now the league’s top scorer.

The only game on Wednesday night saw bottom of the table Padiham come from behind twice to earn a point at home to Ossett Town. James Jenkins scoring the second equaliser for Padiham in stoppage time to earn them a 2-2 draw.

This coming week Darlington will be looking to add to our recent run of victories, as we play two of the leagues bottom four sides. On Saturday we travel to Prescot Cables, before hosting Ossett Albion at Heritage Park on Wednesday. Salford face a tough trip to Farsley at the weekend, meanwhile the sides still in the FA Cup play on Saturday hoping to progress to the final qualifying round.
