This week's youth team round up

What our youth teams are up to

Here's a round up of how our youth teams fared last weekend in the Russell Foster Youth League and the Teesside Junior Football Alliance League.

Because of FA rules, we're unable to publish the results of any matches involving Under 11s and below.

U9 Girls

Darlington Vs Hebburn

Today we welcomed Hebburn who have just come off the back of a last minute defeat to Boldon in the cup.

Hebburn were quick out the blocks & 2 long balls paid off.

Darlo rallied & pulled one back before half time.

We came out second half only for Hebburn to grab 2 more goals.

We started to play football and managed to get it back in the game, plus some other good chances and hitting the post only for Hebburn to break down the left and grab a winner.

A great game to watch & a draw would have been a fair result but well done to  Hebburn.

Gateshead Leam Rangers Vs Darlington FC Quakers

Darlington Fc Under 11 girls

The girls today we're fantastic some great football on show. Great to see what they have been learning in training paying off on the pitch.

The game was over in the 1st half with lots of possession and lots of goals some great teamwork and some great finishing.

Second was much the same as the 1st Gateshead could not get out of there own half. With lots of subs made and people playing in different positions which was really great to see 3 more goals followed which allowed us to switch it up even more. Gateshead had 11 on the pitch at the end of the game and finally pushed there way forward to score a consolation late on. Again so proud how these girls have come and really buying into training.

U14 Girls

Newton Aycliffe V  Darlington Feethams

Under 14 girls

Today against a strong Newton Aycliffe team our girls knew what they had to do, we had at least 3-4 guilt edge chances in the first 20 minutes which would have put the girls out of sight with some great saves by the Newton Aycliffe Goal keeper.

Finally we got the break through we need with a lovely through ball and CSheppard dispatched it fantastically well in to the far corner.

0-1 HT

In the second half we started strongly with some great build up play but it was that final ball that was just leaving us.

Then Aycliffe struck a rasping shot from range from out side the box which looked like it was destined to go in, but for one of the saves of the season by our goal keeper BWhitley with amazing strong hands.🙌🏽

Finally we got what we deserved as the ball broke through and their goal keeper missed the ball and for LWilliams to seal our win as she carried her run on to pass it into the back of the empty net from 10 yards.

0-2 away win

After last week's excellent performance, today was a bit of a struggle

That said we battled through and managed to get the win in the end.

OM's 3 goals earned him the player of the match award in this very tight game which went to the very last minute.

Darlington v Leven

The Darlington team managed a win despite being below their best. Although they lacked the urgency in midfield which has been their trademark recently in the first half, they had enough character to keep plugging away turn that around in the second half. A fantastic strike from outside the box following a corner for Leven was all that separated the teams at half time, despite several spurned chances by DFC. In the second half Darlington stepped it up a gear and JB found the equaliser after some tenacious work in the box and a cool head in front of goal. He showed composure again when the ball fell to him to slot it in the corner and give his team the lead. Leven never gave up and there were chances at either end but the only other goal was a slightly bizarre one as the Leven keeper misjudged a big clearance from SB with the sunlight in his eyes, the ball bouncing over his head and into the net. So not a vintage performance from the lads but all three points and some great character shown once again.

DFC Quakers v  DFC Feethams

JN9 ⚽️⚽️

FC10 ⚽️

The feethams team started the game on top and were unlucky not to be ahead following a free kick from OR10 found it’s way through a crowded box, forcing CR1 in to a great save.

The game ebbed and flowed with the feethams boys on top until JN9 hit a good strike from distance to find the bottom corner.

The game was even for the remainder of the first half with both teams limited to only half chances thanks to some excellent defending from both teams.

In the second half the Quakers team managed to get more control of the ball and the game opened up. Quakers extended their lead thank to good work from NP7 to find JN9 in the box, who swept the ball home. The game then became an end to end affair with both keepers making good saves and Quakers hitting the bar. Although Quakers were on top Feethams were a real threat in the game still.

Some nice build up play down the left resulted in JN9 finding FC10 inside the box, a tidy touch and good finish to the top corner finished off the game.

Overall this was a cracking game of football today played by two teams who are a credit to the youth setup. Both teams were committed whilst demonstrating great respect for each other.

Darlington FC Quakers  Vs Boro Rangers City

How we didn’t get the result today is beyond me!!

Our performance was night and day from the boys reverse fixture earlier in the season against them, we’ve closed the gap massively.👏🏽

The way we moved the ball in the first half was absolutely brilliant to watch, and in the second half we were so unlucky especially in the last 10 minutes we came ever so close, and the Boro goal definitely had a charmed life and the opposition coaches breathed a sigh of relief at the final whistle.

Them poor boys of ours desperately need a little bit of luck to go their way!! 🙏🏽

Surely it’s only a matter of time until the Quakers boys are smashing it.

after a quiet word on effort after last week the lads did give 100%

leven had most of the play in the first half and getting a penalty due to a hand ball 🤷🏼‍♂️ they scored and went 1-0 up

we only had 1 sub and he should be out still coming back from a 3 week injury but he insisted he played

the lad made an impact straight away giving more pace to the team

we were very unlucky not to equalise from a long range shot and we had alot more of the ball

the game ended 1-0 to leven but im a lot happier due to the effort they gave

Result Darlo FC 0-1 Leven

2-1 loss in the cup semi final today for Darlington  v Hilda park.

A very close and scrappy game today with Hilda edging it due to a very unfortunate error from our GK when the ball was played back to him.

On another day we progress to the final after having shots cleared of the line and two shots hitting the bar, that’s football 🤷‍♂️

Darlington 4

Sunderland West End 0

Dominant from start to finish and I don’t know how we only scored 4.

Kieran reacted well to Charlie’s free kick and prodded home after 15 minutes, before Dwyanne smashed one into the roof of the net to make it 2

After the break Harry whipped in a 30 yarder for 3-0, and Lewis fired one into the bottom corner for 4.

Once again I want to mention our defensive quality.

3 clean sheets in a row against top 4 teams is impressive, but only conceding 7 goals in 11 games is unbelievable.

Next week we have a huge top of the table clash with Washington, which we go into full of confidence.

Darlington FC  3 - 1 Seaham Redstars

Darlington hoped to bounce back from a miserable previous weekend defeat against early season title rivals, Seaham Redstar. The wind blew from top to bottom, varying in strength throughout the game. The home had the gust at their backs as they set about their task early and pinned the visitors deep. Seaham couldn’t get out of their own half as darlington gradually went up through the gears. The overdue first goal was passed into an empty net from 12 yards by Finn Talbot, after Lennon rounded the keeper and squared the ball. The home side pressed and harried the opposition, who were forced into error after error by a tenacious Quaker midfield. Seaham almost squeezed one over the line in their only moment of the half but Ethan M was able to clear it off the line. The second was slotted home by Troy Hollow after he took Dylan’s flick on into his stride, burst away from the defence and finished 1v1 at the 2nd attempt.

H-T 2-0

With the wind now in the home sides faces, they were sent out prepared for a tricky half, a defensively solid first 10 the key. The game equalled out, with Seaham mostly shooting from range or set pieces as their threat to goal. Noah Graves in the home net displaying assured handling all afternoon.

A carbon copy of the goal we conceded in the reverse fixture made it 2-1. An error playing out from the back was finished powerfully by their striker. However, moments later darlington put the game to bed. The outstanding Finn Talbot grabbing his second of the game, following in on Dylan’s 20-yarder to side foot it past the grounded keeper.

Final score 3-1. A well deserved and much needed bounce back victory today. So many leaders stepped onto the field; a real team performance.
