Darlington manager Tommy Wright said that he was “happy” with several aspects of a behind closed doors friendly against Newton Aycliffe on Tuesday night.

Tommy gave several members of his first team squad, plus several youngsters, a run out against the Northern League side.

“It was a good opportunity for some lads, such as Leon Scott and Josh Gillies, who haven’t been figuring much in the first team to get some minutes under their belts,” Tommy said. “I also had a chance to see some players, like Jack Vaulks, in match conditions instead of in training.

“We also gave some of the 16 and 17 year old lads from the youth team, games as well.

“I thought Vinny Steels had an excellent game and Dale Milburn scored a very good goal. Harvey Saunders also scored. There were some very encouraging performances.”

Quakers are without a game this Saturday – this was originally scheduled as the Curzon Ashton away game, but was brought forward to October.

Quakers’ next game is at home to league leaders Salford City a week on Saturday, 9th December.
