The club is sad to learn about the death of Darlington businessman Mike Airey.

Mike, who died last week at the age of 59, was a great friend of Darlington Football Club for several years, particularly in the early nineties.

Mike was the branch manager of Barclays Bank in High Row, and as well being an avid fan, professionally he was a very understanding friend, whose discretion in extending the bank's facilities helped the club in challenging financial circumstances.

Gordon Hodgson, who was a director for several years, said; "As Barclays Bank branch manager, Mike was very instrumental in keeping the club going in some dark days in 1991 and 1992, and without his help, the club definitely wouldn't have survived.

Mike's funeral is at All Saints Church, Ravensdale Road, Darlington, on Thursday at midday.

The club would like to send its condolences to Mike's wife and family.
