Darlington Youth Under 15s have reached their league cup final by winning every game they’ve played away from home!
Darlington Youth u15 sponsored by Baltic Training Services and Billinghurst George & partners travelled to Maiden Castle on the 4g surface to play Wearside Blues in the semi final of the Russell Foster league cup semi final.
In a tense opening quarter both teams played a competitive midfield battle which resulted in a series of corners for both teams from which neither could take advantage. The deadlock was broken in the 20th minute when a long cross field ball was handled by a Wearside defender in the box for which Darlington where awarded a penalty and captain Adam Lamb coolly slotted home from 12 yards to give Darlington the lead. Darlington had a great chance to extend their lead further when Adam Bearpark forced an outstanding save from the Wearside keeper which kept the score 1-0 at half time to Darlington.
The second half started at a frantic pace with both teams fully committed and it was Darlington who extended their lead further with a fantastic team goal which saw Harry Hobbs turn his marker in the centre of the field to feed Danny Myers who released Bailey Howarth who again fed Adam Bearpark who sent Harry Noble through on goal who then unselfishly slipped in Robbie Lee who smashed home from 12 yards. 2-0 to Darlington!
Wearside then staged a remarkable fight back and scored two goals in five minutes more through Darlingtons failure to clear there lines than Wearside’s good play .
2-2 score after 90 minutes .
Darlington started extra time like a steam train after words of encouragement from manager Jamie Tunstall and were rewarded with a goal within two minutes when a long cross field ball by Robbie Lee picked out a advancing Bailey Howarth who coolly slotted home from 18 yards to put Darlington back into the lead.
The extra time period was all about Darlington and only fine goalkeeping from the Wearside keeper thwarted Adam Bearpark and Joe Bettridge .
With Wearside now pushing for a equaliser and space opening up all over the pitch Darlington increased their lead when Harry Noble scored a fine individual goal twisting and turning the entire Wearside defence and then coolly slotting home from 12 yards to seal a fantastic win for the young Quakers.
Darlington really have had to work tremendously hard to reach this cup final by not having a home tie in the entire competition and been drawn against Premier League opposition in the last three rounds.
Well done boys you deserve it.
