MOTM - Jamie O'Brien
Sunday brought the long awaited battle between the two remaining teams battling for the title. Darlo had previously come out on top of this fixture with a 2-1 victory away from home earlier in the season.
Both teams took their time to get a foothold in the game after the Christmas break with few major chances being created in the opening 15 minutes. Unfortunately, Hetton drew first blood on 20 minutes when a strike from range from one of the Hetton players found the back of the net, nightmare start, 0-1 Hetton.
Darlo found themselves in an unusual position but managed to find the team spirit that they wouldn't have had earlier in the season and mounted a comeback, with a goal from Jamie O'brien equalising just 10 minutes later.
This goal kickstarted Darlo and helped them click into gear, grabbing a goal to put them ahead, again, Jamie O'Brien finding the net just before the half time whistle! Halftime 2-1 Darlo!
The second half started and more of the same was to come from Darlo, with an early goal coming from Thomas Gilroy after a delightful ball in from Shayne Ketley, 3-1! Only 10 minutes later Hetton were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and managed to grab a goal back by placing the ball in the top corner.
This was just a small scare for the Darlo boys as more goals were to come from the home team, with Luke Evans, Johnson Balkan and again Jamie O'Brien the scorers. A brilliant way to come back from the Christmas Break, Final score: Darlo 6-2 Hetton.
This game increased the under 17s winning streak to an incredible 9 games, conceding as few as 7 goals along the way! This win finally puts the Darlo boys at the top of the league where they belong!
