MOTM - James Walker

The third round of the league cup saw Darlington hosting Hetton for the second time in three weeks.

With Darlington previously beating their top of the league rivals, it was always going to be an interesting game. The game began with Darlington being on top throughout the first half, and frustrating Hetton with the domination.

This was shown as a Hetton player took out Tom Gilroy on the wing, and then directed abusive language towards the referee which resulted in 2 yellow cards meaning Hetton were down to 10 men. And directly from the free-kick, a great delivery from James Walker lead to an easy header for Shayne Ketley to tap in.

The second goal came not long after, as the ball came through nicely for Jamie O'Brien to slot past the keeper.

Darlington went into the second half comfortably 2-0 up, and not long into the half a free kick was awarded for Darlington around 30 yards out. James Walker stepped up to take it, and hit the ball which just flew into the top right corner leaving the keeper in no mans-land. An unbelievable strike.

Jamie O'Brien got his second with a nice finish into the corner and Luke Evans got his name on the score sheet again with another good finish. The game ended with Darlington going through into the quarter finals of the league cup and extending their undefeated run to 10 games.
