Darlington Youth Under 8s finished off the scheduled season with another good performance against Durham County..

The team was a different to the one that had played Deerness last week, with Harry Lambert being unavailable, Jack Phoenix made up the midfield with ever present Charlie Cole, and Logan Williams in the striker position. Ewan Irvine slotted into the defensive role, with captain Zach Judson in goal.

The game started very slow and Durham were allowed to get on top for short periods of the first half and they had some success.

Logan Williams was able to combine with Charlie Cole deep inside the opposition’s half allowing for the first goal. The ball was poked home from a Charlie Cole corner by Logan Williams into the bottom right.

Darlington stole a second goal before the break. Charlie Cole was able to get the better of the defence and keeper, to finish neatly into the corner.

The second half saw Lewis Coleman replace Ewan Irvine, and Jack Phoenix dropping back into a more familiar defensive role to make way for Lewis Coleman to join the midfield.

After Durham County got back into the game, Lewis  managed to score his third goal in a Darlington shirt, proving that hard work pays off with determination and the right attitude. The young man has worked hard in training and on match days since joining the club, which meant it was very pleasing to see him get his reward.

Jack Phoenix picked up a collectors item in a well taken goal. A powerful strike into the roof of the net allowed him to score his first goal of the season.

Keeper Zach Judson also had another great game. Man of the match went to Logan Williams, who walked away with three goals. The young goal scorer ran the pace of the game from start to finish, winning his battles with the Durham defence..
