Quakers left Bootham Crescent furious about a second half penalty incident.
Trailing 2-0 at the time, Quakers felt that home defender Joe Davis should have been shown a straight red when he tripped Jordan Nicholson in the penalty area after he was dispossessed, but the referee only showed a yellow card and gave Quakers a free kick outside the box.
Quakers nearly scored in the first minute. Harvey Saunders got down the left and pulled the ball back into the middle, but Tom Elliott couldn’t get on the end of it.
York gained a free kick or a foul on Burrow on the right, but Law couldn’t find anyone in the middle.
Joe Wheatley tangled with Heslop in the York box and seemed to be impeded, but the referee gave a goal kick.
Quakers looked good going forward, and Tom Elliott tried his luck from 25 yards but pulled his shot wide.
Quakers got a free kick in a central position for a foul on Nelson, and Wheatley curled the ball just wide of the left hand post.
Then Williams Kokolo moved up from the back and hit a left foot shot that swerved just wide of the left hand post.
But York took the lead on 31 minutes when jake Wright burst into the box and was tripped by Jonny Maddison and the referee pointed to the spot, from where Jordan Burrow scored to put York into the lead.
They went 2-0 up on 41 minutes when Quakers didn’t clear a right wing corner. Hamza Bencherif had a shot blocked, but he quickly recovered and fired a left foot shot past Maddison.
Half time

Two changes at half time. Nicholson and O’Hanlon for Kokoko and Nelson. Nelson picked up a knock in the first half.
Then Hughes went off with a shoulder injury and was replaced by Thompson, Quakers going to four at the back.
Quakers thought they should have had a penalty on 59 minutes when Nicholson dispossessed Davis and appeared to be brought down in the area, but amazingly the ref only gave a free kick and showed the defender a yellow card. Thompson hit the free kick into the wall, and claimed that it had been blocked by a hand.
But it was 3-0 on 64 minutes when Jake Wright picked up a through ball, held off a challenge, and fired across Maddison into the net
.Quakers had a chance on 68 minutes when Saunders nodded the ball down for Nicholson to hit a right foot shot straight at Bartlett..
It was 4-0 on 82 minutes when Bencherif headed in a right wing corner from six yards out.
