Darlington take on Warrington Town on Tuesday night knowing a victory is a must to take the title race with Salford City to the last day of the season.

The Quakers were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at Lancaster City which means the title is now in Salford’s hands. Darlington trail the Ammies by five points going into the final week of the season. Salford were able to hold on for a 2-1 win away to Burscough at the weekend.

A victory at Warrington would cut the gap to two points going into the final set of fixtures at the weekend. On Saturday we host New Mills, while Salford play Ossett Town.

The game at Warrington was originally postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The side’s earlier meeting on the opening day of the season was controversial. Following an injury to the referee the game was abandoned before half time. Fortunately for the Quakers, league officials awarded the victory to Darlington, 2-0, with Warrington receiving a fine.

Despite finishing in the playoffs last season, they have been unable to bring that form into the league this year. However, they did have a high profile run in the FA Cup, which included a victory live on BBC 1 over League Two side Exeter City.

The Wire come into the game in eighth place, but it is certain that Shaun Reid and his team will not just roll over. They have failed to win in their last three games, including a 3-0 home defeat to Ossett Albion on Saturday.

Martin Gray has no new injuries to worry about ahead of the game. Peter Jameson who was sent off at Lancaster on Saturday will receive a one match suspension, which will take place either on the first day of next season, or in a potential playoff final.

Ahead of the game Gray said, “This is a massive, massive game for the club. If we win this, we take it all into the final day, and we still have a chance of winning automatic promotion.

“There is no way that I’m resting players, we’re putting everything into it.

“It’s a game that Warrington also want to win, so it should be a very good open game.”
