We asked where Darlo fans are located in the world, and Harry Lough, contacted us from Crete. He gave us an insight into watching Darlo in the fifties -- here's the first part of his story.

I am a lifelong supporter living abroad, I tune into the match commentary whenever possible, and if that is unavailable I follow the tweets on the Darlo website.

I cannot remember the first game I watched, but the one that stands out was the cup replay against Chelsea.

I was at school at St. Augustine’s Primary, Larchfield Street, at this time, as soon as school finished I ran down to Feethams (happy memories) ground packed to the rafters. The only way I could see any of the game was when I was lifted onto the wooden scoreboard that stood in the left hand corner between the cricket/football pitches.

By this time we were hammering them 4-1,never forget the roar at the final whistle.

Other famous games I attended were the League cup games against West Ham (2-1 win), Bolton next round, (lost 0-1).Also at the FA Cup game when we dumped the Boro out. Other notable cup games were the four against Hull City (game at Feethams, then replays Hull, Leeds, and then went out at Ayresome Park).

I played for Darlington Schoolboys and in the junior leagues for Star Juniors and Eastbourne Juniors, I also played for Darlington Youths at the time when Ken Furphy was manager, we were hammered 1-6 at Roker Park in the FA Youth Cup. Sunderland had a hell of a team at that time, Colin Todd, Colin Suggett, Bobby Kerr and Billy Hughes, to name but four I can remember picking my shirt off the No. 7 peg and thinking, the last person to use this peg was George Best, Man United had played there on the Saturday before.

Two players who were in the Darlo team that night were John Hope and Tony Taylor, many fans will remember these local lads.

Two other local lads I played with were Terry Goodchild and Arthur Brock, good friends and outstanding juniors for Eastbourne.

Great to share my memories, hope I have not bored you all, before I go I would like to mention an old adversary, Ian Ross, I have slowed down now Ian, so you could probably get the ball off me without kicking me.

Come on Darlo

Yamas sto Kriti (Cheers from Crete)
