Women's team at home on Sunday
By Ray Simpson
Kick off 2pm at Eastbourne
Darlington FC Women are back in league action this Sunday as they host Consett Ladies AFC at Eastbourne Sports Complex in their last home game of the season.
The Quaker Women are coming of the back of a 2-0 win against CLS United Reserves, whereas Consett suffered their first league defeat of the season last weekend, with league leaders Sunderland U23s coming out 7-1 winners. Consett have guaranteed a second placed finish and will be eager to get back on track and hope Sunderland slip up and drop points in their remaining games.
The two sides have already met twice this season. The first time being in the County Cup Quarter Final. Darlington were 3-1 up until Consett scored 2 goals in the final 10 minutes to take it to penalties. Darlington won 5-4 on penalties with goalkeeper Ellen Atkinson being the hero on the day, sending them through to the semi final. Consett made Darlington pay a few weeks later with a 5-0 victory at Belle View. So it’s a game that always guarantees plenty of goals.
Last season, Darlington beat Consett 4-0 at home and drew 1-1 away. They have therefore played each other 4 times, with 1 win each and 2 draws. It’s all to play for this Sunday.
This is the Quaker Womens last home game of the season, and it would be fantastic to get as much support down as possible for the game. Consett have a good following and it’s sure to be a great game for the neutral.
