Adam Willsher coaches Darlington Youth Under 8s, and here are his reflections on a great last two games.
I will start with Tuesday night, with a friendly game against Darlington Spraire FC. I used this game to try different things such as formations and positions, which I was able to do with great success from the lads. This allowed us to discover a different way of playing, which we took into Saturday with greater success.
The friendly game was a great display of attacking football from Darlington as well as defending. Jay Bradley, Harry Lambert and Charlie Cole dictated the game in the opposition’s half, and Jack Phoenix had a very solid game at the back. Will Atkinson also returned to the side scoring the goal of the game, a volley from almost halfway into the top corner. It was very pleasing for myself to see an excellent performance from goalkeeper Zach Judson, making countless saves and also showing we have great quality throughout the team.
Saturday was yet another good day in the league for Darlington against Washington United. The game was much like Tuesday night, where Darlington dictated almost from start to finish. There were plenty of goals and some great football in the game from both teams.
Harry Lambert was again on form scoring another hat-trick, which was very pleasing to see from the young attacker. Harry is now close to 20 goals for the season.
Charlie Cole also scored a very well taken brace, with the pick of his goals coming in the first half. After shrugging off a defender he struck a low shot into the bottom corner with his week foot.
Logan Williams made his first appearance for the team and didn't disappoint with a second half hat-trick. After only being on the field 30 seconds he curled an effort from distance into the top corner.
But man of the match performance came from Jay Bradley. After scoring two good goals in the first half it seemed his first hat-trick for the club would have to wait for another week. After seeing two team mates grab their thirds Jay got his break, finishing off his hat-trick with moments to spare. A very good all round performance from the striker.
Thank you all for your support on a truly horrible day weather wise.
