Darlington have been knocked out of the FA Cup in the First Qualifying round by Hyde United.
Hyde took an early lead when Ayrton Bevins got in behind the Quakers defence to slot into the net.
Darlington levelled mid-way through the first half thanks to Stephen Thompson tapping home.
However, Hyde went on to progress through two Scott Spencer strikes, including a late penalty.
Martin Gray made two changes to the starting line-up that won 2-1 at home to Ramsbottom United on Tuesday night. Alan White replaced Graeme Armstrong up-front and new signing Ryan Brobbell came in for Anthony Bell.
It was Hyde though who took a shock early lead after just four minutes. One ball deceived the Darlington defence and Bevins was allowed to run clear before putting the ball into the corner of the net.
Darlington came back strong though and twice nearly levelled, once through Thompson, then from White when his half volley was blocked on the line.

The hosts looked shaky at the back throughout and were lucky to escape a Hyde break away when they had three vs two. Pete Jameson was also forced into making a flying save.
Thompson levelled for Darlington after 25 minutes. Adam Mitchell’s cross was not cleared, allowing Thompson to tap home from just a few yards.
Darlington then missed a glorious opportunity when they had four vs one on the break, but they were unable to fashion a chance out of it.
White missed a great chance early in the second half to give the Quakers the lead when his header was saved from only a few yards out, Brobbell also spurred the chance on the rebound.
Hyde regained the lead when once again the Darlington defence looked all at sea, Spencer smashing home at the second attempt after being unmarked in the box.
Armstrong, Bell and David Dowson all came on, but the Quakers failed to create many clear cut chances in the second period. The closest they came to an equaliser was a late header from Kevin Burgess which was tipped up onto the crossbar.

However, Hyde would seal the victory in the final few minutes after captain Burgess committed a foul in the box and Spencer converted from the penalty spot.
Attention turns back to the league for Darlington who again host Hyde United at Heritage Park next Saturday.
