The FA Trophy took centre stage this week, as the teams from the Evo-Stik Premier all entered the competition in the first qualifying round.

Darlington were able to come through against Mossley, 3-2, with Adam Nowakowski, Lewis Walton and Nathan Cartman scoring the goals.

In the next round we face Sutton Coldfield Town. In the first qualifying round Sutton beat Coalville Town 2-0, with Aaron Forde scoring both of the goals.

Blyth Spartans also progressed with a 4-0 victory over Kendal Town. Robbie Dale scored twice along with goals from Matthew Wade and Michael Richardson.

Salford City were knocked out of the competition by Nantwich Town. Steven Howson opened the scoring after just four minutes for Salford. However, Nantwich turned the game around to win 2-1 thanks to Elliot Osborne and Stephen Jones.

Skelmersdale United and Hyde United couldn’t be separated after their first game on Saturday which finished 3-3. Tom Ince and Gerard Kinsella had both given the hosts the lead only for Samuel Fitton twice to level for Hyde. Andrew Pearson then appeared to have sent Hyde through only for Anthony Rendell to level in stoppage time for Skelmersdale. In the replay Skelmersdale won 1-0, thanks to a first half own goal.

In another all Evo-Stik Premier clash Buxton overcame Frickley Athletic, 2-1. Bradley Barraclough gave Buxton the lead only for Luke Hinsely to level before half-time. However, Alex Wiles struck after 59 minutes to see Buxton progress.

Ashton United knocked out Ramsbottom United after two exciting games. In the first game at Ashton the visitors twice led through Jordan Bove and Shelton Payne, but Jason Gorton and Martin Pilkington earned a replay for the hosts. In the replay it was Ashton who twice led through Matthew Chadwick and Adam Morning, only for David Kuba-Kuba to score two as the game finished 2-2 once again. After extra-time failed to separate the sides it went to the dreaded penalty kicks, where Ashton United came out on top 10-9.

Grantham Town were knocked out of the competition at Basford United. Daniel Meadows had given Grantham an early lead from the penalty spot, but goals from Robert McCormick, Ben Hutchinson and Ashley Grayson sent them out with a 3-1 defeat.

Colwyn Bay also were knocked out by first division Burscough. Jonathan Conway scored the only goal of the game in the 44th minute.

Stamford were also knocked out as they lost out at Carlton Town. Anthony Howell gave Carlton the lead, before a Conor Green own goal levelled the tie at 1-1. However, Kieran Walker scored a late winner for the hosts.

Ilkeston won 1-0 away to Cambridge City thanks to a Charlie Coulson goal on the stroke of half-time.

Halesowen Town were knocked out, 2-1, at home to Stourbridge in front of over 800 fans. Stuart Pierpoint scored for Stourbridge only for Aaron Daniels to level just six minutes later. Former Carlisle United Striker Karl Hawley came up with the winner eleven minutes from time.

Barwell were humbled, 6-1, at Leamington, Anthony Carney scoring the consolation for Barwell.

Marine progressed with a 1-0 win over Sheffield FC. Andrew Owens scored the only goal of the tie in the final ten minutes of the game.

Matlock Town were also successful at home to Gresley FC. Joel Purkiss gave them the lead before half-time, with Laurie Wilson sealing a 2-0 win just before full-time.

Rushall Olympic knocked out Mickleover Sports, 1-0. The only goal of the game came from the penalty spot after 27 minutes from Luke Benbow.

The final tie of the round saw Whitby win away at Workington despite so far failing to win on their travels in the league. Matthew Waters, Lee Mason and former Darlington player Ryan Brobbel sealing a 3-0 win.

This coming week Darlington are at home again, as we host Buxton in the league. Elsewhere it is big weekends for Salford City, Barwell and Stourbridge who are all in first round action in the FA Cup.
