Darlington were knocked out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle last Saturday by Hyde United. Despite a goal from Stephen Thompson, the Quakers exited the competition with a 3-1 defeat.  Hyde were drawn at home to Northwich Victoria who are currently top of the Evo-Stik Division One North.

A Quakers side made up of a mixture of first team and youth team players won 4-0 at Billingham Town on Tuesday night in the Durham Challenge Cup. David Dowson scored a hat-trick with Ryan Brobbel netting the other.

League leaders Blyth Spartans were also knocked out of the FA Cup by local side Spennymoor Town. Former Quaker Nathan Fisher gave the Brewers the lead before Liam Henderson doubled their advantage. Stephen Turnbull pulled a goal back for Blyth from the penalty spot, but they exited the competition with a 2-1 defeat. Spennymoor now have an excellent chance to progress further when they host Burscough in the next round.

Buxton progressed with a victory over fellow Evo-Stik Premier side Ramsbottom United. Liam Hardy gave Buxton an early lead from the penalty spot, but Ramsbottom levelled through Lee Gaskell. However, Bradley Barraclough won the game for Buxton with a goal early in the second half.

Nantwich Town are out after they lost to Evo-Stik Division One South side Spalding United. Joshua Moreman scoring the only goal of the game for Spalding after 20 minutes.

Frickley Athletic won 2-0 away to Maltby Main. Royale Johnson and Jacob Hazel scored the goals inside the first half.

It took a replay to separate Salford City and Whitby Town. The first game at Salford saw Whitby take a first half lead through Adam Gell, before Dominic Smalley scored for the hosts to take the game to a second tie. However, the replay was a lot more one sided with Salford winning 5-0 despite being away from home. Former Hartlepool United player James Poole scored a hat-trick for the Ammies, along with goals from Jordan Hulme and new signing Elliot Kebbie. Their reward is a tough looking tie at home to Conference North side Curzon Ashton.

Barwell safely progressed with a 4-1 victory at home to Westfields. Two goals from Anthony Carney along with strikes from Daniel Gaunt and Alex Tomkinson sent Barwell into the second qualifying round.

Ashton United got past Northern League Guisborough Town after a replay. The first game at Ashton ended in a 0-0 draw. Matt Chadwick gave Ashton the lead in the replay only for James Early to level for Guisborough. Chris Baguley regained the lead for Ashton from the penalty spot and Martin Pilkington doubled their lead with twenty minutes left. Guisborough then pulled one back thanks to Luke Bythway, but Ashton held on to win 3-2.

Grantham Town were knocked out, they lost 3-0 away to Chasetown with Nathaniel Waite scoring all three goals.

Sutton Coldfield Town lost 1-0 at home to Oadby Town. Jon Stevenson scoring the only goal of the game in the final ten minutes.

However, Sutton Coldfield were back in action on Tuesday for a rearranged league game at home to Grantham Town.  Former Shrewsbury Town and New York Red Bull’s striker Luke Rodgers scored both the goals for Sutton Coldfield during the second half.

Skelmersdale United required a replay to overcome Evo-Stik Division One North side Glossop North End. Glossop had led at home through Thomas Bailey, before an own goal in stoppage time from Martin Parker saved Skelmersdale.  In the second game Skelmersdale again needed a dramatic late goal to progress. Gerard Kinsella had given Skelmersdale the lead, but a David Young penalty took the game into extra-time. However, Skelmersdale scored three minutes into the additional period to progress.

In another tie featuring two Evo-Stik Premier sides, Halesowen Town beat Mickleover Sports 2-1. Aaron Griffiths gave Halesowen the lead before Anthony Dwyer appeared to have taken the game to a replay when he equalised late on for Mickleover. However, Connor Collins scored the winner in the last minute of normal time for Halesowen.

Ilkeston crashed out of the cup at home to Rugby Town, 3-2. Lindokuhle Ndlovu scored for Ilkeston after just two minutes. However, an own goal from Matthew Baker and a David Koldynski gave Rugby the lead. Michael Williams levelled for Ilkeston after 76 minutes, but just two minutes later Joe Doyle-Charles scored the winner.

Stamford are through to the second round after they won in a replay against Leamington. Andrew Hall had given Stamford the lead from the penalty spot in the first game at Leamington. However, Lee Chilton levelled for the hosts after 72 minutes. In the return match it took only four minutes for Stamford to lead thanks to Nathan Hicks. James Mace levelled for Leamington in the final five minutes only for Gregory Smith to win the game for Stamford in stoppage time.

Marine also progressed with a win at home to Clitheroe. Carl Peers opened the scoring for Marine after half an hour, before Karl Clair sealed the victory in injury-time.

Matlock Town and Northern League side Whitley Bay were involved in a controversial second tie after the original game at Matlock had ended goalless.

The second game in the North East saw the hosts take a two goal lead at half-time thanks to Adam Shanks and Sam Norris. Matlcock levelled though through Joel Purkiss and Danny Holland. By this point Whitley were down to nine men having had two players sent off. Jack Siddall scored what looked certain to be the winner in extra-time. Only for the nine men of Whitley Bay to level in the 119th minute thanks to Chris Reid.  The game went to penalties with the Northern League side coming out on top 4-2 to claim victory. Their reward for the win is a tie with Congleton Town.

Stourbridge are through after a 1-0 win at Tividale. Stuart Pierpoint scoring the only goal in the 28th minute.

Rushall Olympic are through despite drawing 0-0 at Shepshed Dynamo. They won the replay after falling behind to a Michael Reeves goal. Jackson Roberts equalised with Alex Reid scoring a hat-trick to ensure Rushall progressed with a 4-1 win.

In the final tie of the round, league rivals Workington hosted Colwyn Bay, with Workington coming out 5-0 winners. Scott Allison scored a hat-trick of penalties for Workington, with Kyle May and Robert McCartney scoring the other goals.
