Darlington Wearside Youth U13s won a hard fought league cup tie against a very dogged Silksworth team. Goals from Jamie Dodds 2, Kieran Wakefield and Finn Illingworth were enough for Darlington to progress to the next round of the league cup with a 4-2 win.

The club would like to thank all the parents from Darlington for the efforts in clearing the pitch of the standing water, without their help the game would not have gone ahead.

Darlington’s hard work and endeavour was seen from the start, the game was played in atrocious conditions, Darlington played some extremely fast flowing football from the start and it took until the 24th minute when Jamie Dodds pounced on a mistake by the Silksworth keeper, to slot home the first goal of the game.

The second half started exactly the same as the first with Darlington pushing forward and this lead to the second goal from Kieron Wakefield which was a brilliant run from 20yards and then a shot from the edge of the box. Silksworth hit back straight away with a cross-cum-shot which went over the head of keeper Alex Bates to make the score 2 – 1. Darlington then started to control the game and another great bit of individual skill from captain Finn Illingworth who beat three players at the edge of the box and shot into the bottom right hand corner to make the score 3 -1.

Silksworth then threw caution to the wind and went four up front and it paid off again with another cross that nestled into the right hand corner of Darlington’s net, again there was nothing keeper Alex Bates could do making the score 3 – 2. The game became a bit frantic at that point until a run from Jamie Dodds and a sublime finish made it 4 – 2.

Coach Darren Robertson Snr said he was very pleased with the way the boys tried to play football in horrible conditions.
