Matty's double gives Quakers vital win

Two goals from Matty Cornish, his first in the league this season, gave Quakers three well deserved points at Edgar Street.

After a goalless first half in which Quakers failed to capitalise on some good positions, they were more clinical in the second and scored twice in 20 minutes to win for the first time in four games.

First Cedric Main and then Jack Maskell provided the inch -perfect crosses for Cornish to finish and seal the points.

Cedric Main nearly sneaked through on a loose back pass in the second minute, but keeper Theo Richardson quickly came off his line and cleared

Quakers won their first corner on 6 minutes on the right, but Cornish’s corner went over everybody.

Hereford won a free kick just outside the right edge of Darlington’s box, but Alex Babos’ free kick went over the Darlington six yard area for a goal kick.

Quakers had a chance on 12 minutes. Sam Hetherington found Jack Maskell on the left, and he played the ball into the middle for Main to set up Will Hatfield, who fired straight at Richardson.

Hereford won a free kick in a position similar to before, and this time Babos’ free kick bounced off the wall for their second corner, which Quakers got away.

Main got away on the left when Quakers counter attacked, but his ball into the box was intercepted, then Flint made a good powerful run down the same wing, but he overhit his cross.

When Ceesay chested down a diagonal ball and got into the box, Toby Lees came across and put in a great sliding tackle.

From the corner, the ball eventually ended with Howkins, who headed straight at Jameson.

Quakers had a chance on 28 minutes. Forbes found Hedley with a great crossfield pass, and he played the ball inside for Hetherington, who took a touch and struck a left foot shot from the edge of the D that went just over the bar for a corner which came to nothing.

Cornish came to Darlo’s rescue on 33 minutes when Babos got round the back on the left and the midfielder put in a great block.

Quakers went close on 41 minutes. Flint’s ball forward went off a defender to Barrow, who struck a low shot that took a deflection and looped wide. From Cornish’s right wing corner, Lees came in and headed just past the post

Just on half time, Main got away down the left, beat his man,  but could only find an opponent in the box.

Half time 0-0

Hereford had the first chance of the second half, when an awkward bouncing ball was played back to Babos on the edge of the area, but he blazed wide.

Quakers took the lead on 50 minutes. Hatfield won the ball in Quakers' half, found Hetherington, who the played the ball up the left for Main to race into the box and cross perfectly for Cornish, who headed past the stranded Richardson for his third goal of the season.

Hereford nearly levelled within a minute, when White got into the box on the right and fired across the face of goal, and Glynn just failed to get a touch on the ball.

But Quakers missed a chance for 2-0 when Cornish played a 1-2 with Hedley, and when he got into the box, squared the ball back to the full back who sidefooted just over.

Quakers had a goal disallowed when Main again got away down the left, set up Hatfield, who bundled the ball home, but the ref disallowed the goal for handball.

Hatfield then raced through the ball, the defence backed off, but he fired wide of the post.

Main won a free kick for which Preston was booked, and after Hatfield’s free kick rebounded off the wall, it eventually came out for Maskell to volley wide.

Hereford nearly levelled on 70 minutes, White raced down the right as Barrow laid injured, and he curled the ball just wide of the left hand post.

Quakers then took Hetherington off and replaced him with Jarrett Rivers.

It was 2-0 on 73 minutes. Again Quakers won the ball on the left, Maskell raced up the left and crossed for Cornish to volley past the keeper.

Hereford put five subs on, and won a corner, but Preston could only turn and shoot straight at Jameson.

Quakers made another sub, Cedric Main being replaced by Ben Andreucci, then Hazeem Bakre came on for Cornish.

It was nearly 3-0 when Maskell got away, found Rivers, who set up Bakre to volley just over.
