Defender Kevin Burgess has officially left the club. The player terminated his contract to pave the way for his next challenge and is expected to sign for his new Club within the next few days.

Tommy Wright commented “I would like to thank Kev for his service to the Football Club, he Captained the team back to this level of Football and that will be remembered. When I took over I was open to giving everyone a fair chance but with Kev returning from injury and the signing of Josh Heaton his chances were slim of making a return to the side” The player was loaned to Whitby Town for the majority of the last season because of the form of others and was transfer listed just over a month ago.

Kev signed for us in the summer of 2015 from Whitby to begin his second spell with us, having been with us in our Football League days.

He scored on his home debut against Frickley and went on to reach double figures – not bad going for a centre half! He formed a strong partnership with Gary Brown in the centre of defence, the pair becoming known as the B and B partnership on our way to the EvoStik League championship. During that hectic run in, he suffered a head injury and bravely played on with his head bandaged, typifying the team’s determination to win that title, which we did, on that famous night at Kev’s old club, Whitby.

Kev scored in our first game of the National League North at Altrincham the following season, and was a regular in the team until the latter end of the season when he was injured.

In total, he made 81 appearances for us, scoring 15 times.

All at DFC would like to wish Kev all the best for the future.
