Following Stockport County and Kidderminster Harriers, Boston United became the third club in April 2018 to provide the opposition at Darlington’s four home venues, and no doubt Quakers are hoping to continue from where they left off at their previous grounds against the Pilgrims.
While there were a couple of FA Cup meeting at Feethams in the 1930s and ’50s, both home wins, Boston first played a league match at Darlington in 1989-90, a night when David Cork memorably scored four in a thumping 6-1 for Quakers.
Boston had better luck on their next visit early in the 2002-03 season, the Pilgrims winning 3-2, but Darlington had moved to the Arena by the next season and Boston failed to score on any of their four visits.
Darlington came out on top 3-0 in September 03-04, which is when the photograph was taken, Boston goalkeeper Paul Bastock looking on as Quakers celebrate one of their goals scored by Craig Liddle, Matt Clarke and Ian Clark.
The other Arena results were 1-0 (David McGurk), 0-0 and 2-0 (Ian Miller, Neil Wainwright), while last season Darlington beat Boston 4-1 at Heritage Park with goals by Terry Galbraith (pen), Liam Hardy, Mark Beck and an own goal by Herve Pepe-Ngoma.
Footnote; Quakers lost the home game against Boston in April 2018 by 2-1.
