Darlington manager Martin Gray says that Quakers have shown “massive character” in their last two away games.

Quakers’ last gasp 2-1 victory at Hurst Cross on Tuesday night was their fifth away win of the campaign, and also put them on top of the table on goal difference above Blyth, and two points ahead of third placed Stourbridge, who visit Heritage Park on Saturday.

“The players have proved that they have massive character,” said MG. “To win two successive away games is a very good achievement. They were a goal behind to Ashton at half time, but they dug in, and got better and stronger in the second half. It was nice to pinch the points in the 94th minute and come home with all three points.

“I thought we put Ashton under pressure at the right times in the game. It was a great ball in by Stephen Thompson for Nathan Cartman to score, and then in the last minute Graeme Armstrong threw himself at Terry Galbraith’s corner for the winner.

“The players showed loads of desire to win again, just a few days after the win at Mickleover.

“It’s nice to be on top of the league, but we have a tough game coming up on Saturday.”

Stephen Thompson collected his fifth booking of the season on Tuesday night, and he will receive a one match ban, which means that he will miss the Durham Challenge Cup tie at West Auckland on October 27th.
